Abstract

Indigenous practices such as festivals, plays, puppet shows, dance, song, storytelling and poetry, religious groups, village meetings, irrigation associations, mothers' clubs and loan associations, farm input suppliers; indigenous healers and rituals, lack adequate management. This could be attributed to lack of tools to manage them. The study therefore, examined the intercepting point between indigenous knowledge management and ICT. It discusses indigenous knowledge, managing and repackaging of indigenous knowledge, the role of ICT in knowledge management, ICT tools that can be used in capturing, organizing, storing, documenting and disseminating indigenous knowledge, the interception between ICT and indigenous knowledge management, the role of libraries in the management of indigenous knowledge and the challenges inhibiting the management of indigenous knowledge. It was discovered that there is a link between ICT and indigenous knowledge management. However, challenges such as language barrier, ICT skills, digital exclusion, and attitudes of the indigenous people inhibit the management of indigenous management. It was therefore recommended among other things, that the indigenous people should furnish knowledge managers with the necessary information needed for documentation as to ensure posterity. Knowledge managers should collaborate with the indigenous people as well as acquire the necessary skills needed to acquire, organize, store and disseminate indigenous knowledge among the people.
